Food For Needy Families
The annual food drive is in process and food items are being collected so food boxes can be given to families in need. Any type of non-perishable food item can be used: soup, peanut butter, vegetables, fruit, paper products, soap of all kinds, etc. Gift cards are greatly appreciated, too.
If you know of a family that could benefit from receiving a box of food please contact Pastor or Barb Dochow. Names are kept confidential. Food boxes will be delivered by the first weekend in December. Items can be brought to church at any time and placed in back of the church. Cash donations are also appreciated to help with the cost of extra items that will be included in the boxes.

Dear Members of St. Mark
Happy New Year!
What a blessing to begin a whole new year in the grace of our Savior, Jesus Christ! What a blessing that He has given us another year to serve Him and be His people here at St. Mark Lutheran!
As we begin a whole new year, I would like to center our thoughts on our attitudes. Attitude makes all the difference in what you get from our Lord and His Word and it makes all the difference in any endeavor in life. With the right attitude one can become an over-comer or a victim. With the right attitude one can grow in the knowledge of our world and how we live, or we can let technological advances pass us by because we like to be stubborn in our attitude toward such things. With the right attitude we can serve and do our best, or we can serve with reluctance and excuses to miss meetings, and then be frustrated that nothing ever gets done. Without the right attitude we always do things the same way instead of being innovative and fresh in solving problems and in moving forward. Without the right attitude, the church suffers because it has a lack of funds to accomplish its purpose and carry out its ministry. Without the right attitude, hearts grow cold toward worship and the hearing of God’s Word because it doesn’t speak to your needs. When it comes to attitude the following story shows quite the difference.
Jim Smith went to church on Sunday morning. He heard the organist miss a note during the prelude, and he winced. He saw a teenager talking when everybody was supposed to “bow in prayer.” He felt like the usher was watching to see what he put in the offering plate, and it made him boil. He caught the preacher making a slip of the tongue five times in the sermon by actual count. As he slipped out through the side door during the closing hymn, he muttered to himself, “Never again! What a bunch of clods and hypocrites!”
Ron Jones went to church on Sunday morning. He heard the organist play an arrangement of “A Mighty Fortress,” and he was thrilled by the majesty of it. He saw a mother bring her children with her to church even though they were loud and boisterous and thought, how wonderful that she is setting an example for her children to be in the house of the Lord. He was glad to see that his church was sharing in a special offering for the hungry children of Nigeria. He especially appreciated the sermon that Sunday because it answered a question that had bothered him for a long time. He thought, as he walked out the doors of the church, “How can a man come here and not feel the presence of God?”
Both men went to the same church on the same Sunday morning. Each found exactly what they were looking for.
What are you looking for this year? Will you do the same things because you’re comfortable doing them and still wonder why things don’t improve? A wise man once said; “insanity is when one does the same thing over and over again, expecting a new and different result.”
It’s about time we take a good hard look at our attitudes toward everything we do. Because I know that with the right attitude, our hearts will be filled to overflowing with the very presence of God as we move forward together to accomplish God’s mission here at St. Mark Lutheran.
Have a blessed Year!
